I've had to clean up a few too many messes because of some bad choices made along that vein back home, unfortunately. Limited numbers, and all.

Nice to meet you, Derek. I think I'm hearing from the kid Alpha now - which, sidenote, blows my mind, if I'm honest. You know him, how the hell did that even happen? We call Omega's Mutts where I'm from, they tend to be the kind of people you can't trust in a pack and don't want running around anyway, so I've got no desire to even try that route here. I've been in the same pack since I was a pup.

I know the feeling.

Likewise, Nick. Probably, yeah. How did he become an Alpha? Sheer force of will and truth of heart. Sounds corny, but it's the only way to get the spark, status, and power without killing an Alpha to steal it, back home. Why, how's it work for you? Where we came from, Omega's just a wolf who lost his pack one way or another, either kicked out or the rest of them were killed.

Okay, so that's another thing that sounds completely difference. If you're not born into the role and it gets passed to you by birth, or voted in, you fight for it and prove you're better than the person in charge. Sometimes it's through a fight to the death and other times it's something else - current Alpha sets the terms.

Strange how different things seem to be, even if not drastically.

Sounds to me like neither of us has a particularly comforting system in place. Actually I guess you can inherit a spark; that's how my sister got hers. When our mom died; she's the oldest, so it passed to her.

Yeah, that's weird. Interesting, but weird.
