"Why?" She sounds incredulous at his question, but the answer is easy. "Because you don't deserve all...this crap. Because I love you, and I hate that you've been stuck with this for so long. We all got something shitty, but what it did - what it made Reginald do, it... I hate that it was even a thing. I hate that you got stuck with it."

Klaus means so much to her. Has, for so long, even if she knows her distance between herself and their family (and him) may have said otherwise. But in Eglaf they have had a chance to get close again, to build a better relationship than they ever could have back home, and if she had been protective back home, it has only gotten stronger. Klaus had probably seen that, when she had refused to even leave when he got hurt.

She sighs. "I know you would have never done that. And I know you'd never want this to happen, for someone else to get stuck with it. But, you know what, it's okay. I'm okay with it. You get a break, Klaus. God, do you know how long I've wanted that for you?"

She turns her head to press a kiss against his hair, holding him a little tighter for a moment.

"I get that you're nervous. And I'm sure I'm in for a surprise at how this all goes, don't think I'm ignoring all that. But I'm serious. I want you to have this. I'm okay with this. I'm really, very much okay with it."
